Orthodontics with clear aligners at Smile by Ada

We start with a full set of records (CBCT, intraoral scan, photographs) and simulate the final result digitally. You see the direction of treatment from the very first appointment.

We offer clear aligners — Invisalign and Spark — for suitable cases, as well as Iconix fixed metal braces or braces with sapphire brackets. Orthodontic treatment is coordinated by Dr. Dibu.

Invisalign: how it actually works

Invisalign is orthodontic treatment with clear aligners, made to the shape of your teeth. Each aligner moves the teeth by a fraction of a millimetre, and the full series takes them from their current position to the planned one.

The plan is made digitally before you receive your first aligner. You see the simulation of the final result at the first appointment, and the number of aligners comes from that plan, not from an estimate.

Invisalign, Spark or fixed braces

We work with two aligner systems, Invisalign and Spark, as well as Iconix fixed metal braces and braces with sapphire brackets. The choice does not depend on the brand but on what needs to be moved, and by how much.

  • Clear aligners effectively treat crowding, spacing and many bite problems. They are almost invisible and are taken out for meals.
  • Fixed braces remain the option for complex movements and for cases that need constant control over every tooth.
  • The difference between aligner systems lies in the material, the manufacturing method and the price, not in the principle of treatment.
  • Discipline matters more than the system: an aligner worn for eight hours a day moves nothing.

How long it takes and why it varies so much

Orthodontic treatment generally takes between 12 and 24 months. Simple cases with aligners can be completed in 6 to 9 months. The range is wide because it depends on how much bone has to be remodelled, not on the system chosen.

Studies comparing aligners with fixed braces show comparable treatment times for mild and moderate crowding. In complex cases, fixed braces remain more predictable.

Retention: the part everything else depends on

Once the teeth reach the planned position, they naturally tend to move back. Retention, with a night-time retainer or a wire bonded to the inside of the teeth, is what keeps the result.

It is not an optional stage and it has no clear end date. A Cochrane review shows that without retention, relapse is the rule, not the exception.

Can people see Invisalign?

The aligners are transparent and hard to notice in conversation. They are not completely invisible, but the difference compared with fixed metal braces is obvious. They come out for meals and brushing, so they do not change the way you eat.

How many hours a day do the aligners need to be worn?

Between 20 and 22 hours a day. This is the one condition that is not negotiable: worn for less, the aligners do not move the teeth, and treatment takes longer or stalls.

What happens after I finish treatment?

Retention follows, with a retainer worn at night or a wire bonded to the inside of the teeth. Without it, the teeth move back towards their original position. This stage has no fixed end date.

Can adults have orthodontic treatment?

Yes, and adults make up a significant share of our patients. Bone responds to treatment at any age, as long as the gums and bone are healthy. If there is periodontal disease, we treat it first.
